My ‘must do’ list of events in Ireland in 2012

IT’S A NEW YEAR in Ireland and I’m hoping 2012 is the year when I get to explore more of the Emerald Isle and its 84,400 sq km of natural beauty.

With almost 3,000km of amazing coastline, there is so much to see and do and I’ll be looking out for interesting blogs and events going on in our beautiful coastal counties.

In the meantime, let me introduce you to the upcoming events of glorious county of Kildare in 2012, a county I’m very familiar with and one that never leaves me disappointed the more I get to know it.

The Irish National Hunt

Leave our magnificent 550-acre country estate of The K Club, where Firstlight’s private residence club dwells quietly in the village of Straffan, and head to my favourite horse-racing festivals – the Curragh and Punchestown in the neighbouring town of Naas.

Punchestown Racecourse is the headquarters of National Hunt Racing in Ireland and host to the famous Irish National Hunt Festival that takes place in April every year. The pretty town of Naas is a 15 minute drive from the K Club and we provide a popular vacation stay for race-goers and their families, with courtesy transfers to/from the race track provided daily during the festival.

Punchestown in Co Kildare is Ireland's most exciting horse-racing venue

County Kildare is Ireland’s most well known region for horse-racing and, as Emirates Airlines will now be flying to Dublin just half an hour away from Kildare, we hope to welcome more Middle East horse-racing tourists to the festivals.

Fancy running the county marathon?
On Sunday May 13th, The Run Kildare Event takes place and includes a 10km race, a half-marathon and a full 42km marathon. Around 3,500 participants run every year and there is a whopping €8500 in prize money to give away on the day.

All races will start and finish at the Curragh Racecourse and entertainment and a BBQ will be available after the races. This is only the third year of this exciting event and entry details can be found at www.kildaremarathon.ie
